Silver Birches 2. 9x12 Oils on board.

This painting was done entirely with a palette knife. It is my first attempt at this type of painting and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. I liked the outcome butam a little concerned what other Artist`s will make of it. My wife Rosemary said she thinks it is a decent painting but didn`t like it. Oh! well, you can`t win them all can you?

  1. Hi Vic, I think it's great. Rosemary should meet my husband Mike. They are our best critics. My work is getting really sloppy. But this has everything, and with a palette knife. Wow!

    Have a great day.

  2. Thank you so much Joan. Your comment has given me the courage to have another go at the palette knife. I don`t think your work is getting sloppy at all. That portrait that you have just done is far from sloppy, it`s fantastic. What a lovely childs face. and the back of her Mother is also fantastic. I have left a comment on it. Thanks again my friend, and all the best.
P.S. Don`t get down hearted, you are a great Artist.

  3. Hi Vic, I think this painting is lovely. Your wife needs to stand back from it so the texture won't jump out at her so much and the images will be clearer. It is difficult when most are used to photos and TV. This looks almost like it is carved out of a surface and you mixed your colors well. I did my fall still life with my palette knife. n

  6. Thank you very much Teresa. Now I know it must
be a decent painting. Three lovely Artist`s
said so. When are we going to see more of your lovely paintings Teresa? Or some more brilliant shots of Flowers? All the best Teresa.

  8. I scrolled down and worked my way up.
Now I see that you have indeed been working with a knife.
    I like it a lot!
Don't the peices of paint seem to stay put better?
On this one, the light areas, very much have a sense of being lit.
I have found that some of the same painters who previously thought my style ~unusual~ at best are now admiring it, encouraging me not to change much... So I say- ride that experiment wave on your own if you have to, and have fun on it!

only stay put better but you seem to get more brilliant colours which pleases me no end. I can`t understand other Artist`s thinking that your style unusual, you have a brilliant style.
I especially like your brilliant colours. Thank you for your lovely comments Jill, and all the best.

  11. Victor--have to ad my two cents worth--I like the palette knife as well. It looks sculptural and you did a great job with the values. If you had fun that is the BEST reason to do it again...:)

Thank you for your comment. yes I did enjoy painting it that way. My very first palette
