- I started painting around 1990 and loved it straight away. I started with watercolour,and then after about 15 years I moved to Oils and acrylics. I still paint the odd watercolour to keep my hand in so to speak. I love impressionism. The only time I use detail is when I paint portraits. Otherwise it is my interpretation of the subject. I am retired but still find it hard to find time to paint. I reckon I can manage to do a painting about three times a week. Originally I was a Motor Mechanic. Then, for the eighteen years leading up to my retirement, I worked for Barclays bank.

Thank you Joan. Yes, hands are very difficult to draw, I`ve found them so anyway. When we sketch from the model at our club on a Monday afternoon, I always block them in with just the outline shape. We only have fifteen minutes to do this aketch. We have some wonderful portrait painters at our club too. All the best my friend. I`m about to look in on Sue`s work now, and yours of course.
