Light against Dark. 9x12. Oils on board.
I found an old black and white photograph of this subject, and decided to throw caution to the wind and go mad with colour. This is the result. I titled it "Light against Dark" because that is the basics of a painting. If nothing else, this is what I aim for in a painting.

Hi Vic,
ReplyDeleteI Think this is the best oil you ever made.
Please go made some more! It has a wounderful impression of depth and light, your friend Mariano

ReplyDeleteHi Vic,
ReplyDeletePowerful! It is one of the lessons that are so important in a painting. I love your colors in the sky and the way the tree is the focal point. I also love the brushwork in the for-ground. Well done my friend.
All the best to you.
Joan
Hi Pam.

Hi Mariano.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your great comment my friend. I have just received an email from you saying that you had sent me a comment on this one, and when I checked, it was here. It wasn`t here yesterday when I had got the other comments, so it must have just arrived. Sorry about that my friend. Yes I will go mad on colour in future as you suggested. I too love colour as you do. Thanks again Mariano and all the best.
Vic.
Hi Vic!... Love the simplicity of your design and your successful focus on dark upon light.
ReplyDeleteAs well... I love the quietness you have created through your use of consceutive horizontal layers from your sky downward... anchored by your dark foliage and shadow focus nestled in the middle ground! Great stuff!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Hi Rob.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I named it light against dark because I am trying to impress a friend of mine to bear that in mind whenever he starts a painting. So when we meet, he says those three words. All the best Rob.
