Bridge at Aylesford Kent. 12x17, oils on board.

This painting was done mainly from a painting that I did onsite at Aylesford Kent. I managed to spend about an hour and half on the painting before the heavens opened up. There were five of us at this spot and we managed to get shelter under a tree. Although it was a terrible day weather wise, we all had a great time.

  1. I love this one Vic. The subject matter (I love bridges, old and new), the brickwork on the bridge, the reflections, the big juicy variegated strokes of green on the trees, the colours of the British sky, the contrasting red rooves and a few birds to give it some life. I just want to stroll through this painting. An hour and a half you say - brilliant! Regards Michael.

  2. Good morning Michael. Thank you my friend. I didn`t mean an hour and a half for this painting. It was for the plein air painting that I did on site. I did this one mainly from that painting and reference photos. I think this one over two days came to about three hours. I don`t count the hours that I do a painting whilst at home. It`s always over a period of at least two days on and off. One day I might paint for just half an hour, and the next time I can`t leave it alone, so it would be much longer. I love your Gouache and Watercolour paintings Michael. All the best.

  3. Hi Vic,
Thank you for sharing your process in this lovely painting. My friend you are an excellent draftsman as well as a masterful colorist. Love the under painting and your brilliant use of color. I agree with Michael, composition, great, color and tones are great and love the reflections. Well done.

    All the best to you,
    Joan

  4. I`m so glad you like it Joan. It always make you wonder whether it is okay or not doesn`t it my friend? As I said to Michael, it was a terrible day weather wise, but it was all exciting and friendly with my friends. All had a great time rain or not. We shale be going back there sometime. On the other side of the Bridge, there were four other members and we didn`t know that until the following Monday when we all discussed the day out. All brilliant. All the best my friend.
P.S. Your landscapes and Waterscapes are brilliant.

  6. Hi Sue.
Thanks very much for your comment. Glad you like it. I painted the original painting onsite, but wasn`t too happy with it, so I did this one from the original and with the help from a photograph. I have just noticed a new posting from you, going to check it out now. All the best Sue.

  8. Hi Hilda.
Thank you for your nice comment. I did go a little too far with the second stage I`m afraid. I usually just do a tonal block in at this stage, but I got carried away, my impatience got the better of me. Thanks again Hilda and all the best.
    Vic.
