Around the Bend. 9x12 oils on board.
I fancied doing this painting mainly because of the dark Trees. That 4x4 ( I think it is a 4x4)is coming up a hill from around the bend. I have added a new colour to my palette now, sap green, and I love it. I haven`t used this colour before but I`m looking forward to really trying it out this coming Sunday Plein air.

Beautiful painting. Great job with the trees. Nice color harmony, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog.
Hi Vic,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this composition. The dark green of the tree illuminates the sky. Yes, sap green is one of my favorites also. I did check out your tutors site and looks very interesting. I am presently studying Tim Fishers technique of using watercolor pencils. He is one of your countrymen. My friend how lucky are we artist to have this wonderful gift, the passion to paint. We will never be bored. Enjoy your outing with your group and I am looking forward to your next post.
All the best to you.
Joan
Thank you very much karen. Glad that you like it. I`m pleased with the sap Green. I love your paintings. All the best Karen.
ReplyDeleteVic.
It's a beautiful painting, Vic. I love Sap Green too. The light in this pic is great... and the dark green of the trees really set it off.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joan.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was the dark trees that I liked about this subject. I thank God often my friend for the gift he has given us. And as you say, we will always have something to do eh? Can you send me Tim Fishers website Joan? I wouldn`t mind having a go at Watercolour pencils myself. I will check to see if my Tuter teaches Pencils. All the best Joan.
Vic.
Thank you Teresa.
ReplyDeleteIt seems everybody likes Sap Green, and I hadn`t experienced it before myself. Glad you like the painting Teresa. All the best.

Vic this is a beautiful landscape painting! I also love the sunlight look! I use and love Sap Green. In my painting "The Storm", that you were so kind to visit, I used Sap Green...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Janice. As I said, everyone seems to use sap green, and now I do, great. Your storm painting was excelent. All the best Janice.

Hi Vic! ... Another beautiful and painterly piece.
ReplyDeleteYour light and shadows are particularly effective in this one... due in no small measure to your inclusion of sap green into your palette!
It's a wonderful tool for "punching up" and mixing good darks... especially for summer and fall greens!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Vic, Great effort! I love the contrast. Personally, I only use primary colors and mix the rest. Once in a while, I want the brightness of sap green, and do have a small tube. I also have a small tube of cobalt green, works well darkened in the shadows. Paint on!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Jennifer. Actualy, Before I included Sap green into my palette, I always mixed my greens from the primaries. Apart from the new addition, I still do. When I look at other Artist`s work that use Sap green, I imediately liked their Foliage. Thank you Jennifer, and all the best.

The composition is very compelling in this painting. I LOVE your color. In particular I enjoy the sky and how it reflects and illuminates the roadway. I too use sap green now and then!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. And thank you for your palette. That is exactly the same palette as mine. So how do you get those beautiful colours and I don`t? I can imagine it is to do with your application of the paint eh? All the best Linda.

A beautiful painting Vic. I love the darks of the trees against the sky. Sap green is a great addition to your palette. The car just makes this a wonderful drive in the country!!!
ReplyDeleteI also like the composition and the dark green of the trees against the light of the sky and the shadows on the road. The sap green works well. The little car zipping along makes it feel like a day in the country. Well done, Vic!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Sue. I`m stuck with Sap Green now. Also I have included Lemon Yellow to my Palette for distant cooler Greens. Also Lately, I have been listening to my favourite classical Music on my I`Pod, is that what you call them? It`s brilliant. All the best Sue.

Hi Vic!... A wonderful painting! your discovery and addition of sap green has really enhanced your light-dark contrast in your greens! Sap green is a wonderful helper!
ReplyDeleteWatch how much you apply.... it's a SLOW dryer on its own. I add in Wingel medium or a dash of alkyd white... both of which are VERY fast dryers.
Love your use of the car to create scale.... and action in the landscape. Good decision!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Hi Bruce.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your great comment. It is a nice pat on my back coming from a great Artist as yourself. I went plein Air with our club Sunday, and I managed to do two Sketches in oils, + a couple of pencil sketches. I also took some photos of some of our members engrossed in their work, so I will be posting them as well. All the best bruce and thank you.
Vic.
