Kew Bridge. Strand on the Green

This painting was done from an oil Sketch I did on site. I did add a couple of boats that you can see under the bridge.

  2. Hi Vic,

Very interesting composition with the boats in the background. Also, lovely use of greens for the trees against the light sky. Well done Vic, best to you.

  3. This is a beautiful painting...the light in the sky and its reflected light on the water is very moving to me. I liked your sketch of this scene also. The birds in the sky are an added point of interest creating the illusion of great depth! I really like this one, Vic!

  5. Great work Vic. To do the plein air sketch and then do a painting from that sketch is wonderful. I love the sky and trees and your addition of the boats. Well done my friend. Once again you are inspiring me to start working from my 5x7 plein air sketches. Thank you for sharing.
    All the best to you.

  8. Hi Joan.
Glad you like it. As far as painting it from my colour Sketch, I always take a photo of the subject just incase. I painted the two boats from the photo only, just to give me some idea. I`m not one of those that can remember everything about a scene, can you my friend? All the best Joan.

  9. Hi Vic,

I can't. I also take photos when plein air painting. So many artist do and it's fine. As for the boats, I could never put anything with structure with out a photo reference. Have you seen Janice blog. Most of her work is from her imagination, she's great. So what ever it is you do my friend, keep doing it. Your results are wonderful. All the best to you.

  10. Yes Joan, You and I are not the only ones that use a photo reference are we? The reason I go out to paint is the same as yours, and that is because we enjoy it eh? If it produces a painting that you don`t have`to improve on it at home, great. But if you didn`t take a photo of the subject, at least my memory doesn`t stretch to remembering. Age thing I reckon. All the best my friend.

  11. Hi Vic!.... Another well crafted composition and painting!

Those shadows and the arch of the bridge overhead force the eye under the bridge and directly to the subject... the boats.

The bridge... could have been a problem... but isn't because of the way you handled everything else in the painting. You have to love those summer greens too Vic!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
